Nightlife
Munich's nightlife is as multifarious as everything else about this city. You can spend the evening in a traditional beer hall called a Brauhaus, stroll through vibrant pubs or shake a leg on one of the many dance floors that Munich's nightlife has to offer.
Planning a bar tour with friends or looking for a cozy cocktail bar for your next date? Here are my top 10 places not to miss while you're in Munich:
- Café an der Uni
- The Cafe an der Uni, also called Cadu, in the Uni Quarter is a good place to go for a quick bite or to spend your break between lectures. In the evenings, the music is often cranked up, creating a lively atmosphere. With many tables both in and outside, and in the conservatory, it's a great place to go with a group of friends to spend a fun evening and meet other students.
- Bikini Mitte
- What is known as a deli bar during the day becomes a relaxing bar with dimmed lights, delicious cocktails, and chill music at night. Perfect for a few drinks before heading to the club, or enjoying the evening with good company until Bikini Mitte closes.
- Soda
- For breakfast lovers and cocktail fans, Soda is the place to be. Here you can dance to the beats while sipping on delicious drinks, and if you get hungry after a few cocktails, you can order a tasty breakfast until midnight!
- Komitee
- Whether it's a first Tinder date or regular gatherings with my best friends, I always feel comfortable in the Komitee. Highly recommended are the many unusual drinks on the menu.
- Cafe Kosmos
- The Cafe Kosmos is the only reason why you should stay in the area around the train station in the evening. In the two-story bar, which almost resembles a living room, you'll meet lots of students and trendy people every night. A little tip: If you want to get a seat on the weekend, get there early or just hope for a miracle ;)
- Barschwein
- The Barschwein not only has incredibly long open hours (every day from 6 pm to 5 am), but also very affordable prices. Also worth mentioning is the excellent food policy: for the price of €1 for the waste, you can bring your own food and eat it there, in the cozy ambience. You won't find a cheaper price for a night of eating and drinking in Munich!
- Augustiner Bräustubn
- If you want to enjoy a beer in a traditional atmosphere outside of the Oktoberfest, the Frühlingsfest or any of the many other beer festivals held in Munich, then head to the Augustiner Bräustubn!
- Löwenbräu-Keller
- Everyone knows it, everyone loves it: the Löwenbräu-Keller at Stiglmaierplatz. Especially noteworthy in the summer because of the beer garden.
- Schluckauf
- Probably the cheapest bar in Munich: Schluckauf. Cheap alcohol, always crowded, and a fantastic atmosphere - the perfect place for a legendary night out.
- Lost Weekend
- If you're looking for a different kind of night out, head to Lost Weekend. Located in the university district, you can join or just listen to open stage and dirty comedy open mics several times a week. It is also a great place to dance away your weekday worries.
Night owls get ready! Where to go in the evening in Munich depends on the type of music you like and the crowd you want to attract - be it chic and classy or young and edgy. Music ranges from electro, house, and techno to indie, pop, and hip-hop in Munich's discos and nightclubs – there’s something for everyone. Here you can dance your night away:
- Bahnwärter Thiel
- At the Bahnwärter Thiel you can enjoy the best techno on the weekends either in shipping containers or in a small subway car next door. In the summer, there are often open-air events on weekends and live music, stand-up comedy, jazz sessions and other fun events in the evenings during the week. It always feels a bit like an adult adventure park.
- Call Me Drella
- Named after Warhol's nickname Drella, a combination of Dracula and Cinderella, Call Me Drella is an extraordinary club. With funk & soul, hip hop, and electro music from the 80s and 90s, the disco offers a variety of music. Drella has a main room, the Theater, with a large dance floor, a lounge and a pharmacy bar with hidden surprises.
- 089
- If you want to sip long drinks at fair prices while listening to charts and house music, this is the place for you. Whether it's Tuesday or Saturday, half past eleven at night or half past five in the morning, you'll always find like-minded party animals in 089.
- Nachtgalerie
- The Nachtgalerie, also called NaGa, has been part of Munich's nightlife for over 18 years. It is also probably the cheapest disco in Munich. Even predrinking is more expensive! The club has a huge main dance floor, a small hip hop floor, and a large outdoor area.
- Milchbar
- The so-called Milchbar has a long history in Munich's nightlife scene. Starting out as a milkshake bar at the Ostbahnhof, it is now a club that students in Munich should not miss. You should know though that the Milchbar is known among Munich locals as "Hin und mit" for a reason: rumor has it that girls and guys are particularly easy to hook up with in this club.
