Accommondation
Finding a place is one of the most stressful tasks for a student. There are even students living in tents on camping sites since it's hard in Munich to find affordable places. Securing a reasonable and long-term contract in big cities like Munich can be extremely dreadful. Remember, perseverance is key!
Start as early as you can. It is important to also have temporary accommodation/sublet ready in case you fail to find a permanent place before arriving in Munich. Make sure you also have a Schufa document.

Newspapers
While online platforms and real estate websites have become increasingly popular for finding accommodation, newspapers remain a traditional and potentially valuable resource, especially for those who prefer more localized and community-focused information. For Munich you can refer to Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Hostels/ Subletting/ Airbnb/ Tents
For those who do not end up finding accommodation before arriving, there are several options. So do not worry!
Sublets: Subletting involves renting a property from someone already leasing it. The original tenant becomes the sublessor and rents the space to a sublessee. It is in most cases not possible to register your address in such an arrangement, but if you are lucky, a few owners might allow you to register.
Hostels & Airbnb: Hostels could be an affordable option for temporary stays. Booking an Airbnb for a week or two is a good option as well. Make sure you make the payment through Airbnb and avoid making any cash payment directly to the host.
Tent & Couch: If you have friends in Munich, do reach out and see if you can spend the first days at their place. Make sure though you are contributing to the household! You can also find students living in tents in camping sites. This can be adventurous and cost-effective too!
Jugend Informations Zentrum München: The “Accommodation in München” brochure provides an overview of different accommodation types in Munich.
DAAD provides valuable information on renting in Munich as well.
Budenschleuder is the newsletter where you can sign up and receive updates on accommodation in your Email.
