1. German Language Requirements
If you are planning to study in Germany, you will study under the same conditions as students who were born in the country. This means that you will probably have to follow classes in the German language!
Therefore, knowledge of the German language is the first requirement that foreign students must fulfill. At some institutions, there is an option to study in English (one of them is the SDI University in Munich), but it depends on the program and the educational institution.
When applying for a visa and submitting documents for the university application, you have to prove your knowledge of the german language in order to study in Germany. You can prove your level of German knowledge in 2 ways:
DSH German language exam for foreign students:
It can only be taken in Germany. The exam is organized at many universities all over Germany, and information on locations and dates of examination itself can be obtained from the Foreign Student Services of individual universities. The necessary knowledge level required, necessary for studying in Germany, is DSH-2.
TestDaF – test of German as a foreign language:
This exam can be taken in 90 countries, all over the world. It is organized six times a year and the number of participants is limited.The knowledge level of this test, which is necessary for studying in Germany, is TDN4.
Also, at most higher-education institutions, the C2 certificate of the Goethe Institute, Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, as well as the Deutsches Sprachdiplom, level II, issued by the Conference of the German Ministry of Culture and Education, are recognized as proof of knowledge of the German language.
