The live version
Eh voilá. Your digital knowledge map is published and can be read by others according to your access restrictions. Below you will learn about all the standard functions and optional extensions in the live map:
Standard functions
1. Zoom
You can dive deeper, one of the core functions of KontextMaps, by zooming in the live map. As soon as you have created more than one layer, you can use the plus and minus icons on the map to dive deeper and higher between the layers. You can also zoom using other options: the scroll wheel on your mouse, the trackpad on your laptop or touch gestures on tablets and smartphones.
2. Layer view
A bar on the right-hand edge of your map gives you a visual indication of which level you are on in your live map. After the last level, the map section continues to enlarge thanks to the infinity zoom. The bar on the right remains on the last level.
3. Table of Contents – List of Articles
All nodes that you have created on your map and that have a name are automatically listed in the live map in the table of contents. This list is sorted alphabetically and can also be indiviualized. If you click on one of the names there, you will automatically be zoomed to the article associated with this node.
4. Search functionality
For each live map, all content such as article texts and metadata of media files are indexed for the map's internal search. A full-text search is used for the search. This includes the name of an item and all item texts in the content boxes as well as the additional search terms. When you enter a search term, the text is analysed and words are reduced to their root words so that similar or compound words with a partial term can also be found. A search for "coincidence", for example, would also return results in which the terms "coincidences" or "coincidental" occur.
Optional Extras
1. Header
If you have set up a header in the editor, this will be visible in the live map above the map with all the settings you have created. Like the map, the header is responsive. This means that free-standing links that are visible in the header on larger screens will slide into the burger menu on mobile devices and smaller screens.
2. Share Options
If you have activated one or more share options, the selected social media icons will be stored on your map in the share icon. If you select a network to share from there, the map will always be shared. They are also placed at the bottom of the content boxes, which means that individual content can also be shared directly.
3. Editors Note
If you have created an editors note in the content area, it will automatically appear in your live map. A tab with the name "Editors Note" will then appear at the bottom of your map. If you click on it, a window will appear over the map in which you can read the editorial.
4. Table of Contents & Tooltips - Glossary
If you have created a glossary in the content area, the term definitions will automatically appear in your Live Map. Once as an alphabetical list in the table of contents, where there is then a new section called "Glossary". If you click on a term, the definition will be expanded. In addition, the term definitions within the content boxes are linked to all glossary terms with a tooltip popup. If you click on such a term, the popup with the definition opens.
5. Table of Contents - List of Sources
If you have created a list of sources in the content area, this will automatically be included in the live map in the table of contents. A new section labelled "Sources" will then appear there. This contains a list of all sources.
