Use Layers
Layers are one of the core functions of KontextMaps. They allow you to place your visual structure and all elements of your map at different depths. Distribute nodes and content on up to 12 layers.
If you decide on several layers, you offer your readers the possibility to dive deeper and deeper into the topic by zooming in. By setting the visibility of the elements, you decide which elements should be visible on which layers.
For the clustering of the map into layers, the structure is saved in hierarchy layers. On the live map, the reader then zooms from layer to layer, from the overview to the detailed overall network. But there are many other ways in which layers can be used. There are no limits to your creativity here.
Working with layers
In the working process, it is best to use layers only after the structure has been created. After you have defined the structure and the scope of the theme, you can decide in a next step how many layers should be used to zoom into your theme.
You can find out how to set and manage layers in the editor under "Edit layers".
Options for structuring over several layers
Constant visibility of elements
If all elements are always to remain visible, you do not need to add any further layers.
Structuring the elements step by step
The structure of the map is built up step by step over all layers. For example, a structure from the overview or the main elements to the highest layer of detail. The next lower layer then appears in addition to the nodes already visible. In this example, a title page is set on the first layer, which is no longer visible from the second layer.
Multiple layers with the same content
If you cluster your map over several layers, the graduated structuring does not necessarily have to take place over the next layer. You can also keep the same content constant across several layers, e.g. to increase the zoom factor and create a longer diving experience.
