Going Live
People who have access to the map can reach the live map via a URL. The KontextMaps Editor automatically creates a standard URL that you can simply copy and pass on.
You can find the map URL area in the toolbar on the left-hand side, in the web settings area, in the sub-item "Map URL".
If you want to create an individual URL for your map, you have the following options:
- Create individual subdomain
-
If you want to simplify and personalise the default URL of your map, you can customise the subdomain app.kontextmaps.com with an individual subdomain identifier and shorten the URL with a map-specific URL identifier.
Instructions for the individual subdomain
1.Select the general basic settings of your account
2.In the "General settings" section, you can enter the subdomain identifier of your choice under "Your KontextMaps subdomain". E.g. your company name. Save the changes.
Note: The KontextMaps subdomain created there applies to the entire account and thus to all your map projects. You cannot create a CNAME forwarding at the same time.
3. Now switch to the map project you want to publish and select the tool for the map URL from the toolbar on the left side in the area of the web settings.
4. In the section "Subdomain of the customer" you will now see your individual subdomain: Companyname.kontextmaps.com
5. To shorten the ending of the URL, enter the name of your map project that should appear in the URL in the form field URL identifier.
E.g.: mapproject
6. The URL of the subdomain is now shortened and adapted. In this example it would be: companyname.kontextmaps.com/mapproject
7. Copy this URL to share your map project.
- Embed map on external page
-
If you want to embed your map on an external site, you can easily embed it on your own website with an embed code. To do this, select the embed code tool from the toolbar on the left-hand side in the web settings area. There you will find two embedding options:
1. Embed via iFrame
With the iFrame embed-code, the map is embedded directly on your external page where you place the iFrame. The map automatically adapts to the given space and can be used and operated directly within the layout of the external page.
2. Embedding via div-embed-code
- Transfer map to external domain via CNAME
-
If you want to transfer the map directly to an external domain, the CNAME forwarding is the right option. Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to create this:
- Create a subdomain in the DNS settings of the domain. To do this, create a new entry ("record"), e.g. "map.yourdomain.com". There are different types of records, e.g. "A", "AA" or "TXT". The new entry must be of type "CNAME" and the value for the entry must also be "app.kontextmaps.com", the target domain for CNAME.
- Now go to the KontextMaps Editor. In the "General settings" section, you can enter the subdomain you created earlier (without the protocol prefix such as https://) under "CNAME domain". Note: You cannot use a KontextMaps subdomain at the same time.
- Then switch to your map project that you want to publish and select the tool for the map URL from the toolbar on the left in the web settings area.
- In the section "Use with CNAME URL" you will now see your subdomain.
- To shorten the ending of the URL, enter the name of your map project that should appear in the URL in the form field URL identifier. E.g.: project
- The URL of the CNAME domain is now shortened and adapted. In this example it would be: map.yourdomain.com/project
- Copy this URL to share your map project.
