Cookie Consent
What is Cookie Consent and why do I need it?
According to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), an EU directive, users on the internet must be informed transparently about the use of their data. In this context, data is not only understood to mean personal data such as names or e-mail addresses, but also usage-related data such as IP addresses or the setting of so-called cookies. In this context, the processing of data must be voluntary, unambiguous and for purposes about which the users of the website are sufficiently informed.
Cookies are small pieces of information in the form of code that the website sets in the user's browser in order to record, for example, when and where the user has already read something, in order to mark the content accordingly. Cookies can also be used for tracking and analysing user data. In this way, a distinction can be made between system-relevant and optional cookies. Since the use of cookies can have very different reasons and there have been websites in this area that have generated user data in this way without users being aware of it, a so-called cookie consent has been introduced in recent years. With the help of this consent, visitors to a website are asked before using the site whether they also want to accept cookies that can be set optionally in addition to the functional cookies. In addition to this decision, the privacy policy must be linked here so that users can read which cookies are used for which purpose.
How does cookie consent work in KontextMaps?
If you activate cookie consent, it will automatically appear in the live version of your map. When you call up the live map for the first time, the map will remain inactive until a decision on the use of cookies has been made via the cookie consent.
How can I set a Cookie Consent?
Select the Cookie Consent tool in the toolbar on the left side under the web settings. In the form that then opens, you can simply activate the cookie consent via the toggle.
If the cookie consent is activated, it is automatically displayed in the live map. By default, the privacy policy of Kontextlab is stored. If you want to link your own privacy policy, you can simply enter the URL to it in the form.
